Applying to more jobs doesn't always mean you'll get hired faster.

One of the biggest mistakes job seekers make is sending the same resume to dozens of openings and hoping something sticks. This is time consuming and won’t get you a job quicker. But it will burn you out fast.

What’s a better strategy? Apply to fewer jobs that are actually a great fit. For both you AND the employer.

1. Decide what you actually want before you start searching.

Before opening Indeed or LinkedIn or scrolling through job boards, ask yourself:

What's the minimum hourly wage or salary I'll accept (or need to live)?
Am I looking for full time, part time, seasonal, or remote work?
How far am I realistically willing to commute?
What schedule works with my life?
Which industries do I actually enjoy?
What kind of work makes me lose track of time?

Having clear answers makes every application stronger because you're applying with intention and will make you more passionate about your job.

2. Pick your top three job categories.

Instead of searching for everything, focus on the types of jobs that fit your experience.

For example, Park City generally has a huge range of jobs in the following industries:

Healthcare
Nonprofit
Outdoor recreation
Customer service
Skilled trades

When you narrow your search, you spend less time chasing jobs that were never a good fit in the first place.

Many hiring managers would rather receive one thoughtful application than fifty generic ones.

Take a few extra minutes to:

Update your resume for the position.
Write a GREAT, genuine cover letter if requested.
Double check for spelling mistakes.
Submit everything before the deadline.
Don’t just rely on AI to write for you. Be authentically YOU and allow your personality to show.
Network, network, network. Ask around to see if you know anyone who works at the place you’ve applied.

You'll stand out far more than someone clicking "Easy Apply" twenty times in a row.

4. Follow up.

This step gets skipped all the time.

If appropriate, send a friendly email a few days after applying.

A simple follow up shows initiative, keeps your name top of mind, and demonstrates genuine interest in the role.

5. Stop checking five different job boards every day.

One of the hardest parts about finding jobs in Park City is that openings are scattered everywhere.

Some employers post on Indeed or LinkedIn. Others only use their own website. Some jobs are word of mouth and many just have a sign in their window. Walk around. Ask around. Don’t just reply on one source.
